For my international friends, Singapore has just undergone a massive change following our Political General Elections held on 7th May, 2011.
So how does that have anything to do with hip hop dance? Well, nothing.
haha but just want to share this video which rose to massive social media popularity in just one night! I thought it sounded like good beats to incorporate hip hop dance moves to. JUST KIDDING hahahaha…
To spread the FUN LAUGHTER PEACE and JOY (:
Check out this article which was written about the person in the video:
Things are getting out of control =)

Newly minted internet star, Returning Officer (RO) Yam Ah Mee, has taken his newfound fame in his stride — and in so doing, may just have endeared himself even more to his army of fans.
Displaying no hint of anger or unhappiness at the sudden intrusion into his privacy, Yam — who is the People’s Association chief executive director — left a good-natured note on his fan page and said, “Hi everyone, thanks for all your interest.
Just trying to do a good job as RO.”
On the thousand of Facebook friend requests he’s been getting since Elections Results night, he wrote on his page that “Things are getting out of control! =)”
In comments reported on The Straits Times, he said he was “surprised so many people liked me online”.
“I don’t see it as a compliment for myself, but for all the election officers who helped to make the election a smooth one,” he added.
Yam is now one of the most recognisable faces in town after having appeared 27 times to announce the winner of each constituency in Sunday morning’s polling results.
With his straight-laced and deadpan expression, Yam delivered his announcements in an even-handed monotone, without fear or favour to any of the parties, as should be.
He explained that “it was important to announce clearly, concisely and impartially” and that he had a throat operation that affected his voice when he was young.
Yam shot to internet stardom after a spoof Facebook page — which has his name wrongly spelt as “Yah” instead of “Yam” — garnered over 31,000 “likes” in just the space of a night. It now has 38,000 “likes”.
His actual Facebook page also now has over 20,000 likes, up from a thousand before Sunday night.
Felicia Yong, 25, who works in PA, told Yahoo! Singapore that Yam is actually more friendly in real life than what has been portrayed in media.
“In real life, he is very personable and definitely smiles more when he speaks to you,” she said.
On Sunday, supporters gathered at various venues around Singapore awaiting the results were overheard mimicking Yam as he spoke, repeating the line, “Pursuant to Section 49, Sub Section 70, Paragraph A of the Parliamentary Act, I hereby declare…”
He was quickly labelled “RObocop” and “Justice Bao” by some in cyberspace.
While some have urged netizens to “stop making fun of him”, others have congratulated Yam on his instant celeb status.
James Rainson Ng wrote on Facebook, “You will rockz to stardom. Nicole Seah is the queen of this GE, you are the king.”
Another by Caroline Oh said, “Mr Yam, I think you should be the voice at MRT stations, since you made everyone stop and listen to you.”
Some have even suggested he run for President.
Jokes aside, besides being the head honcho of the People’s Association, he was also one of the driving forces behind the LTA’s Land Transport Master Plan.
He was appointed Returning Officer for the Parliamentary and Presidential Elections in June last year, succeeding Tan Boon Huat, who has retired.
Lest you think he’s all talk, he’s also chief of the President of the Harvard Club and Harvard Club of Singapore’s Volunteer program.
With this new celeb status, there’s even a YouTube disco video where you can jive to his monotone voice. Enjoy. (video at top of this blog post)

PS: Kudos to the person who created this track because it sure is alot of effort cutting off parts from the 27 speeches he made to fit into this disco track. Wonder how he recorded and did it… thumbs up for his awesome humour HAHA
Was just wondering… Looking back at hip hop history, does politics in society still play a part in today’s hip hop dance?
