Hip Hop Dance Videos – I.aM.mE: Bang (Moon and Chachi)

Been catching up with ABDC Season Season #6 lately and thought to find some other videos of some of the crews dancing outside of the competition and I found this, I.aM.mE’s Moon and Chachi move to the groove of Bang by KP ft. Lost Generation.

Watch and enjoy their choreography in this video:

Di Moon Zhang a.k.a. Marvellous MoonDi Moon Zhang (dancing in this video)
Di Moon Zhang began his growth in dance at age 15 in China, where he was inspired by Korean artists such as H.O.T. and American superstars like Michael Jackson. Daring to create a career around dance, he moved to the United States in 2005, and after situating in Houston, Texas, he co-created “Marvelous Motion Crew” together with Phillip “Pac-Man” Chbeeb.

As the main choreographers, they led the team to much success, winning 1st place at “The Show,” a Dallas competition hosted by The Jabbawockeez. Taking the team to new levels, Marvelous Motion Crew traveled to California on their first major competition, and received 3rd place at “World of Dance: Pomona” under the direction of Moon.

He has since created a following through viral media, directing and choreographing short films on youtube, which have generated nearly a million viewers. His collaborative efforts have included work with Quest Crew, members of Kaba Modern and So Real Cru.

Moon is currently in preparation for his Asia tour, where his classes will travel through Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, and dozens of other locations all throughout. Future plans involve leading I.aM.mE CREW to greater heights, with intentions to compete in the SIX season of America’s Best Dance Crew. (/edit from JayyDoubleYouu: they ARE competing in season #6! and they are the CHAMPIONS:D)

Olivia Gonzales a.k.a. ChachiOlivia (Chachi) Gonzales (dancing in this video)
Olivia Gonzales, was nicknamed “Chachi” by her family.  Most people think the nickname came from Scott Biao’s character “Chachi’ on Happy Days, but actually Chachi is short for muchachita; which, in Spanish means “little girl”.

She was born in Houston, Texas, the youngest of 5 siblings.  With such a big family, it called for a fun upbringing doing lots of different things just being around her older brothers and sisters.  Early on, her my mom and dad told her to pick something she wanted to do and to do it well.  So, at age 6, she picked ballet and enrolled at a nearby dance studio where she trained for three years.

At around the age of 9 she went to a dance event where she saw for the first time a hip hop dance crew.  Coincidentally, it just so happened to be Moons’ Marvelous Motion. Instantly, she was hooked and told her parents that this was what she wanted to do.  Immediately, she could feel the music and instinctively wanted to move differently than she ever had in ballet.

Within the same month she enrolled in a new middle school and by a stroke of luck it was one of the only few schools in Houston that had a hip hop dance crew.  She was extremely shy at first and hid behind her mom when she was first introduced to the new dance instructor.  She was so scared because she had no idea how to dance hip hop.

The group director, Ms. Valencia, took a liking to Chachi and showed her how to have confidence in herself.  Soon enough, she started to love dancing hip hop and it motivated her to work harder and harder in order to get better.  Eventually, her instructor began to count on Chachi more and more and before too long, she was asked to lead the group.

Shortly thereafter, her mom found Marvelous Motion Studios and enrolled her in a few classes.  It was a wonderful time being there because so many of the dancers that inspire her to this very day were dancing there as well.  Dancers like The Soreal Cru, Phillip Chbeeb, and Moon just to name a few.  It was a really fun time because she was just a beginner and these guys were already dancing at a level that inspired so many.

From there on she just continued to dance as much as she could and eventually it led to a passion, dancing almost everyday. The question asked the most is how does Chachi get to dance the way she does; even though it still feels surprising that other dancers like her dance style and are even inspired by her, it is extremely humbling.  The message given to them is the same; work hard every day.  When most people are getting to the dance studio; Chachi has already been there, and when others leave she will still be there, way past bedtime, but having fun nonetheless!

Chachi doesn’t admit to being any better or special than anyone else; the only difference is that she will practice all the of the time.  Family support and the love of friends encouraged her to not only be the best dancer she can be, but also to be the best person possible inside and out.  Chachi is 15 years old and the only that she will confess to is that she is Justin Bieber’s biggest fan!!

JayyDoubleYouu Comments:

I first heard about Moon and Chachi from my little brother who is in love with hip hop dancing. Hahaha did you think I was going to say Chachi? okay maybe he likes her a little bit, that’s what he says.

Anyways, I just took a glance at what my brother was watching on YouTube (doing the protective big sister wanting to know what he was up to online) and that glance became a stare, which evolved into a sitting-down-at-the-computer-watching-YouTube-for-days thing. ok i’m kidding.

But they are really ADDICTIVE. Comment if you agree.

Moon is probably one of the most original choreographers out there and I.aM.mE totally blew the chances of the other choreographs at ABDC so far in the season (Disclaimer: that’s only in my opinion!). Their choreography is so visual and sometimes so real that it’s creepy. Double up with excellent dancers from the crew, I’ll not be surprised if they ended up top three in ABDC (I’m rooting for another group actually and don’t wanna incur wrath from other fans lol so mentioning top 3 is relatively safe).

Back to this video, after watching it, it seems so unreal to me that Chachi’s only 15. Only 15!?!?! She’s amazing.

Many people can’t figure out why she’s so darn good at dancing but to me I think she’s got the groove in her bones. If you look at her dance, she’s oozing with the right attitude and in hip hop that’s one of the most crucial elements. You can perfect your dance steps til it’s completely flawless but without that X-factor (the attitude), however dope the hip hop dance choreography, you will always be guessing what’s missing in your puzzle.

And Moon, you are just marvelous. At first I thought it was quite funny that you call yourself marvelous moon (I mean.. what the.. marvelous moon?! I get the alliteration but u could do better than that?). But as I watched more of your videos and your dance.. you really live up to that name, or even going beyond it already. So, I’m apologising for laughing at your name in the beginning.. I’m not going to laugh at you anymore. Any chance of a name revamp though? no, i’m jus kidding marvelous moon is.. well.. marvelous ;)

As I’m blogging now, I’m waiting for MTV to upload the FULL episode of ABDC Bieber Week.. I’m not local in America so can only watch online.. how sad:((( Heard it’s really good! can’t wait to watch it.. to see what all of the crews will come up with. Especially Street Kingdom’s rendition of Never Say Never…

BY THE WAY.. I GOT SOMETHING BREWING FOR ALL YOU C-WALKERS OUT THERE. so exciting lalalalalalala…. KEEP WATCHING THIS SPACE;)
